'Righto' by Liam Murphy
12 - 22 September
‘Righto’ by Liam Murphy is a real product of its time.
Featuring 24 paintings by the artist, along with his inaugural collaboration, a series of one-off ceramics that are designed and handmade by Victorian artist Molly Melican who works under the name of Ginklet.
Murphy’s latest series of works was created over a longer period of time than normal. Victoria was, and still is, battling through a range of lockdowns and restrictions that saw Liam and his family confined to home as well as homeschooling their three children.
As a result, his work habits had to change. Instead of kicking the kids out the door to walk to school, he was kicking them back inside to start school. What would have normally taken him a few hours to do would take me a couple of days to achieve.
'The climate at the time I was creating them certainly seemed to be very downcast and I really wanted to rally against that; to bring some joy, beauty and happiness to the world. So these works are just that - an attempt to brighten peoples lives both literally and figuratively!’.
