Alizon Gray - Light and Dark
64cm x 59cm
Oil on Canvas
Framed in Tasmanian Oak
"It is rare for me to paint in dark colours, but when Fenton & Fenton put out the call for the F*ck COVID exhibition I thought it would be apt."
My silver lining...
"I think that the challenge of trying to resolve this work and the end result with an area of clarity and colour against the harsh, empty blackness reflects our collective experience of living through the pandemic over the last couple of years: the emotional roller coaster of apathy, enthusiasms, anxiety, calm, frustration, relief (it goes on). Whatever it means for you, I hope that my painting Light & Dark reminds you that there are always moments of beauty, even when everything seems very bleak."
By building up layers of lines, squiggles, blobs, dots, shapes, and veils of paint in varying degrees of transparency Alizon hopes to create an artwork that cannot be understood in a simple glance.
