“This small collection for ‘Sunnyside' is based on the idea of that perfect Summer somewhere. When you dream up a perfect summer, you can be in the dead of winter until you set foot on a plane and then you can step out into Summer. There’s particular things that stay in your mind that reminds you of a place and time; the ‘utopian’ beaches, that perfect fresh fruit or street food that you just can’t get anywhere else.”

“A representation of the internal dialogue, external relationships and the management of finding a place for everything in your mind and heart. The vibrant primary colours leave an optimistic outlook on the lessons learnt and the future ahead”.

"My art practice is all about colour first, repetition second, then wonkiness, pattern, line and wonkiness. I really enjoy putting colours together on top of other colours and the resulting happy accidents that come about. These latest works were all completed in late 2023. I remember being excited for the predicted long hot summer, and spending the school holidays with the kids on the beach. None of which really came about. Not to worry! I am looking forward to sharing these pieces with everyone and seeing them hung among some very talented legends."

“This collection of paintings is a joyful celebration of summer, channelling the vibrancy and power of the sun’s life-giving energy. Each piece is presented on a manta, a ceremonial textile used for making offerings to higher forces; the recurring vessel motifs acting as sacred containers, filled with adorned libations of flora and fauna inspired by the season. Nathalia is constantly amazed by the mystery of the artistic process and the power of inspiration, trusting her creative muse to guide the way. Her deep appreciation for this creative alchemy is revealed and reciprocated through these spirited and uplifting works”.

“Summer to me has a special feeling of openness and curiosity. We seem to allow ourselves alittle extra time to languish in the heat, enjoy our surroundings and daydream. There are moreminutes for beachcombing, collectingshells, re-acquainting ourselves with treasures from homeand past holidays. And of course, cooling off with fresh fruit.”

"The dream state became a well of inspiration for me after four months of travel. I delight in how my collected experience exists within my psyche when I fall asleep. This collection is an autobiographical journey through my own dream state and how that influences my waking life. I can't separate the sun from life. It is both its own entity and inextricably linked to life itself. My paintings often feature some kind of light source that exists in relationship to beings. I love that light has a tangible quality and an understood essence of vitality. It is beautiful and simple, yet everything is affected by its presence or absence”.
