ARTIST BIO

Sarana Haeata

Sarana Haeata is a Maori - Australian artist who resides in Fremantle, Western Australia. From her seaside studio Sarana explores the beauty and nuances held in shared stories, collective and individual identity, with a particular focus on the female experience. Heavily influenced by the joy and challenge of motherhood, her work which is often imbued with a sense of surrender and freedom spans across painting, digital media, ceramics and public art. Her work explores internal landscapes through gestural brush strokes, iconography and written word.

Sarana sites her colour palettes as the most prominent emotional vehicle, using colour to instill calm or a sense of rich, enveloping wonder. Sarana’s artworks are visual acceptance letters, holding the viewer in a moment of belonging. Recent ly Sarana has been commissioned by The Gardener Museum in collaboration with The Boston Globe and has exhibited in Miam and San Francisco with her first solo show selling out in Sydney last year. Her works reside in the private collections of Randi Zuckerb erg and Sarah Harden (CEO of Hello Sunshine production company) with works in private collections across the US, Australia, Copenhagen, France and Hong Kong.
