ELWOOD-HERO-2 - Fenton & Fenton

SLOW LIGHT

THE ELWOOD RESIDENCE

There are homes you visit, and homes you sink into. The Elwood Residence is unambiguously the latter.

Set behind a quiet street in one of Melbourne’s most considered inner-bay suburbs, this architect-designed home makes its intentions known the moment you arrive. This is a place built for living slowly, and living beautifully.

Light is the first thing you notice when inside. It arrives early, shifts gently through the day and lingers long into the evening, drawn down through skylights, pulled through oversized windows, pooling on pale brick and warm timber in ways that make you want to do nothing at all except stay.

Against the home’s serene architectural backdrop - raw blonde brick, walnut joinery, polished concrete - we dressed every room with our latest arrivals. The result is a home that feels both serious and joyful, a collector’s eye within an architect’s bones. From the Supper Club dining room to the chrome-framed reading nook, from the lush terrace bistro to a bedroom that makes the case for staying in bed until noon, Slow Light is a reminder that the best kind of luxury is unhurried time, and a beautiful home to spend it in.

‘Built for stillness. Styled for living.’

THE LIVING ROOM

The heart of the home earns that title. Our generous Roommate Modular Sofa in golden honey velvet anchors the space, low and inviting, while a statement rug grounds the room. Artwork punctuates the pale brick walls with a mix of portraits, abstracts and still life pieces, the walnut joinery styled with colourful accents to complete the space. This is a room for slow mornings with good coffee and long evenings that stretch well past sensible hours.

THE FORMAL LOUNGE

If the living room is where the day begins, the formal lounge is where it ends well. A deep moss Homebody Sofa fills the room with warmth, offset by colourful and glossy accents and artwork, with a fireplace stacked and waiting for the evening ahead. The walnut joinery shelving that spans the wall does the rest of the talking. This is a room that rewards staying in.

THE DINING ROOM

The Supper Club dining table sets the tone - deep, lacquered and glossy enough to catch the light from every angle. Strut Dining Chairs in soft Italian leather paired with plush Noodle Dining Chairs pull up around it like guests at a very good dinner party. The kitchen beyond is a study in restraint: warm timber cabinetry, a golden stone bench dressed with tan leather Strut Bar Stools that invite you to linger over a second glass while someone else cooks.

THE READING NOOK

Our chrome Studio 54 shelving unit mixes up materials, loaded with treasures and colourful home accents. Our deep burgundy Rocco Chair sits opposite, arms gleaming chrome, a Squiggle Floor Lamp curling overhead. This is a room with opinions.

THE BEDROOM

The bedroom makes no apologies for its ambitions. Our Cloudy Bed, upholstered in deep golden olive velvet-like fabric, sits against raw brick, oversized and unhurried. Fluted chocolate curtains fall from ceiling to floor, with our Nomad Dhurrie in olive anchoring the space. The case for staying in bed until noon has never been more convincingly made.

THE GARDEN & TERRACE

Step outside and the palette softens. The terrace is dressed in sea mist with our Sundowner outdoor range, beside a lap pool edged in stone and lush plantings. A smaller bistro setting sits to one side in the garden in contrasting aubergine. It is the kind of outdoor space that blurs the line between inside and out, between morning and afternoon, between a quick coffee and the rest of the day gone.
