Natalie Bessell is a multimedia artist; she uses acrylic or oil pastel on wood panel for her two-dimensional works and clay for her sculptural pieces.
Natalie is originally from San Diego, California, currently living on The Mornington Peninsula, Australia. She studied Fine Arts at The School of Visual Arts in New York and received a certificate in Botanical Illustration from The New York Botanical Garden. Her work has been featured in publications such as Citybeat, San Diego Union Tribune, San Diego Magazine, and The La Jolla Light.
Natalie has produced multiple murals in Melbourne and San Diego including “Chooks” for The Melbourne Farmer’s Market (Melbourne, 2019). Having spent the last decade working two dimensionally, Natalie presented her first sculptural works in clay at her exhibition “Thank You For Dinner” at Off the Kerb Gallery (Melbourne, 2021). The show included a series of ceramic wall hangings illustrating the human relationship to land and animal: the one-off sowing seeds, tending to the land, caring for the livestock—and emphasizing not only the abundance that comes from this but the spirit that exists in it. The human relationship to nature is a recurring theme in her work.
